Town
[edit]Gilbert the largest town in the US? Is this semantics or vandalism? Brian Rock 02:33, 27 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- Semantics; largest area incorporated as a town, as opposed to a city. Brad Jones 03:52, 14 Jun 2005 (UTC)
- Well, isn't it more complicated than that? Look at, e.g. Town of Hempstead, New York; North Hempstead, New York. Obviously, New York towns are not municipalities, but are more like sub-counties. But the issue seems awkward, doesn't it? john k 03:49, 20 March 2006 (UTC)
- Hempstead is not a separately incorporated area listed in the census listing. Given the subject, I would consider the census listing definitive, but I will readily admit to personal bias. -- Kazrak 00:32, 22 March 2006 (UTC)
- You're Right, but they are still incorporated Municipal Corporations or "Minor Civil Divisions" but as stated they are "Municipalities" or "Towns". AndrewSan12 (talk) 01:06, 3 September 2023 (UTC)

Notable natives and residents
[edit]this section needs some serious cleanup; either valid citations need to be forthcoming that demonstrate that these indiciduals are from or reside in Gilbert, or they need to be removed. -- 208.81.184.4 (talk) 00:36, 15 December 2010 (UTC)
Structure
[edit]Hi. I'm going through all the US Cities (as per List of United States cities by population) in an effort to provide some uniformity in structure. Anyone have an issue with me restructuring this article as per Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities/US Guideline. I won't be changing any content, merely the order. Occasionally, I will also move a picture just to clean up spacing issues. I've already gone through the top 20 or so on the above list, if you'd like to see how they turned out. Thoughts? Notable people
[edit]This section has been tagged for lack or citations since 2010, with many of the tags on individual entries since the same time. I found a source for one of them, but I don't anything about Gilbert, save for the fact that it's in Arizona. Each entry needs an inline citation which establishes both notability and a significant tenure of residency. Please see WP:RELIABLE and WP:WikiProject Cities/US Guideline#Notable people. Thank you, Oldsanfelipe (talk) 19:32, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
Population figure is wrong
[edit]The indicated population figure for Gilbert, AZ, 243,254 people, seems wrong. The cited source is [1]. However, the indicated sources there refers to the estimate in April 2019. Using QuickFacts feature of the U.S. Census Bureau, it is revealed that Gilbert has 267,918 residents per 2020 census. Pinging Dobblestein who added the figure. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 09:46, 29 August 2021 (UTC)
- JWilz12345 I would consider the US Census data to be more authoritative in this instance. There are cases of unincorporated sections of cities not being counted in official numbers. Certainly do as thou wilt. Dobblestein 🎲 🎲 talk 20:28, 10 September 2021 (UTC)
- @Dobblestein: I searched for Gilbert, AZ in U.S. Census Bureau's website, and the results show it has 267,918 people. Seems the 267K figure is the final one. Unsure if the search URL from U.S. Census Bureau can be used as a citation/reference though. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 04:54, 29 October 2021 (UTC)
Town Growth Census Data
[edit]Hello Wikipedians, I would like to add census data that discusses Gilbert's growth rate with the census data source and citation. I am new to Wikipedia editing, so please feel free to offer any input or suggestions. LisaLamphere (talk) 02:53, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
- I went ahead and added Census data and citation regarding the growth of Gilbert under demographics. Again, I am new to Wikipedia editing, so please feel free to offer any helpful input or suggestions for proper notation of changes and editing. LisaLamphere (talk) 01:30, 3 December 2022 (UTC)
Town logo
[edit]The town logo changed a while back. As bad as the new design may be in my opinion, it is official so it should be added to the article in place of the old one 2600:8800:2598:9A00:39D7:35A3:61:82EB (talk) 04:58, 5 September 2023 (UTC)
