Non-Commissioned Pilots
[edit]The table of ranks shows no appointment of "pilot" to any sub-commissioned rank. I have read elsewhere that the RFC had a great many NCO pilots, and even a few sub-NCOs. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.242.139.117 (talk)
Woodford Green
[edit]Woodford Green? It's never had an airfield. Don't you mean Woodford, Manchester? https://www.forgottenairfields.com/airfield-woodford-1281.html Unless you mean Chigwell, which is two miles away, located closer to Buckhurst Hill but still in Chigwell's Urban District Council zone https://www.fightercontrol.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24041 AsparagusTips (talk) 23:23, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
- Halley 1988, "RAF Squadrons. The Squadrons of the Royal Air Force & Commonwealth 1918-198" says for No. 37 Squadron the Headquarters was at Woodham Mortimer, Essex and it's aircraft were dispersed to landing grounds such as Stow Maries, Goldhanger, Rochford. For 39 Squadron it says their Headquarters moved from Hounslow to Woodford Green, Essex.
- However Jefford, 1988 "RAF Squadrons. A comprehensive record of the movement and equipment of all RAF squadrons and their antecedents since 1912" says that 37 Sqn reformed at Woodford Green but didn't recieve any aircraft until the squadron moved to Woodham Mortimer 14 days on 29 September 1916. For 39 Sqn it says the squadron moved to Woodford Green on 30 June 1916 but had detachments at 5 different locations. Gavbadger (talk) 17:27, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
- A further reference to 39 Squadron HQ being at Woodford Green in 1916 is here. It was presumably the airfield located at Chigwell Road, Woodford, discussed on p. 14 of this survey, though it does seem to be very poorly documented. GrindtXX (talk) 17:50, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
RFC cap badge photo
[edit]The photo you insist on keep re-adding is a piece of jewellery worn by wives or girlfriends it is not in any way shape or form a piece of military insignia, the badge I took time to add is the correct one. Tpaffett (talk) 12:05, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
