[edit]My name is Carthik in real life, and my website is at carthik.net. I am a Ph.D. student in Computer Engineering, and most of my research revolves around Genetic Algorithms and Reconfigurable Computing.
Interests : There are too many to list :) I was an avid quizzer during my high school days, and I continue collecting factoids and trivia, and take an interest in things that are interesting only because they are strange, obscure or connected to other things in strange ways. If I had to count my interests off, they would include: A.R. Rahman, Aesthetics, AMD, anthropology, architecture, art, artificial intelligence, Asimov, Assam, , the Beat generation, blogging, Bob Dylan, Books, Brodsky, Buddhism, Burroughs, C, C++, Caffeine, The band Cake, Calvin and Hobbes, Albert Camus, Carnatic Music, Classical Music, Cochin, Coffee, Cognitive Science, Collage as an art form, Computer Architecture, Computer Science, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Cricket, Cryptography, CSS, Dali, Death, Digital Circuits and Design, Digital Photography, Escher, evolutionary computing, F1 racing, genetic algorithms, goa, graphic design, haiku, hyderabad, India, Internet, jazz, kerala, Linux, movies, music, Mythology, open source, orlando, philosophy, photography, php, programming, quizzing, soccer, Trivandrum, Trivia, and web design.
Areas of knowledge: Computers, Reconfigurable Computing, India, Weblogs and general trivia.
The sorts of things you'd like to work on here at Wikipedia: I would love to add to existing pages, to include what I may know, and help with maintenence, styling, merging, editing and making sure pages look well-finished and copy-read.
I have known about the wikipedia for about a year now, but for the last few months, I have been active over at the Wordpress Wiki. I am hooked to wikis, I guess, and it made more sense to sign up and try and be active around these parts :)

[edit]My name in real life is Matthew, I live in Tulsa, Oklahoma. I am a nurse and a student. I have been active on Wikipedia for a few months now, and besides a few goofs I think I'm doing pretty well. I happen to be a total nerd so I guess it's fitting that I found Wikipedia; I spend hours in the evenings reading the articles, so I just thought I would join up and start editing. My interests include: Nuclear Energy, Nursing, C. S. Friedman, Terry Pratchett and Discworld and just about anything else that I come across. Childoferna 20:59, 1 Jul 2004 (UTC)
Loganberry
[edit]Hello there. I am a British fur interested in a strange variety of stuff, ranging from cricket and motorsport, through old computers such as the BBC Micro, to the books of Lindsey Davis. I've dipped a toe in the water with just a few minor edits so far, but once I get the hang of the conventions I hope to be able to write the occasional article as well. =:)

[edit]Hi, and thanks for the welcoming. I am eager to help out wherever I can. Mostly I help in the range of computers (especially *nix and Apple) and complex sentence cleansing. My interests are far from focused, which can make it hard for me to be motivated, but I generally go like a dog to a bone to something that I love. Good stuff.

salutations! i usually write my username and my emails in all lowercase, but i will conform to proper capitalization when making edits here. i work for apple computer, and i enjoy such things as computer software, telephony, electronic music, lossy audio compression, sampling, remixing, composition, websurfing, travel, sarcasm, and internet radio. things i am not good at include remembering things, buying gifts for others, remembering to get a haircut in a timely fashion, and having a clean bedroom. i have lived in new york state and california. some quick music recommendations: luomo - the present lover, blue nile - hats, 808 state - ex:el, depeche mode - violator, tears for fears - songs from the big chair, spacetime continuum - emit ecaps, biosphere - substrata, orb - orbus terrarum.

[edit]I'm almost a half a century old this year. I live in Metro Atlanta, but am a native Floridian. I was impressed at the range of knowledge this site provides. A search for Boligee, Alabama, brought me to this site, indicating a wealth of information on population makeup. My interests include genealogy, history of the US and Europe, writing, comedy, enjoying my grandchildren, learning and sleeping, just to name a few. About the only thing I consider myself to be an expert in is telling my children how to fix a problem in their lives. And thankfully, they listen most of the time--may take years--but it's worth it. I'm gonna look around a bit more but looks promising as a research tool. Will try editing to see how that goes. I also have a fondness for the lower case.

[edit]Hi everybody my name is Fred. I discovered Wikipedia doing web research. I enjoy reading, writing, walking (absorbing the natural world through my biological self and my dogs), gardening, brokering stocks and coins and most of all helping people. Wikipedia fits in with naive view of the world where everyone works together making life better through knowledge. I have enjoyed Wikipedia a great deal and hope there are ways I may be of service. I will anything that needs to done

[edit]Hi I'm from Puntam County, West Virginia but I'll be moving to Lowndes County, Georgia on July 15 2004 I know much about History.
I've noticed that web searches tend to come up with more and more Wikipedia articles, and decided that it might be a good idea to get involved. I'm in my thirties, live in Norway and work for the Catholic Church here. I've studied history, archaeology and Classical languages, and have fairly varied interests.

[edit]Hi, I'm from Sydney, Australia.
I first started editing here on june 23, 2004 and was surfing here anonymously for about 18 months before before that. I don't remember how I found out about this, but I think it was probably an article at www.wired.com. I'm a philosophy/psychology double major university dropout!!!

PezHacker
[edit]I'm a mid-30s software developer from upstate New York who stumbled across the Wikipedia while Googling something or other and got hooked on the Random Page feature. Of course, some pages were better than others, so I went ahead and signed up to do my part in (hopefully) improving things where I can. Unfortunately, I know a little bit about a lot of things, so I probably won't be writing any in-depth articles, but I'm having fun cleaning up grammar, spelling, and links at the moment. [edit]Hey all, I'm a mechanical engineering student from Texas currently studying at Texas Tech University. I forget who exactly first introduced me to Wikipedia, but I was drawn to become a registered Wikipedian after reading about changes made to the article about the webcomic Sexy Losers after the comic artist had complained in his blog about factual errors in the article.
My interests cover a wide spectrum, but my first goal as a Wikipedian is to write articles and stubs about various forms of divination. Spectatrix 04:00, 2004 Jul 9 (UTC)

[edit]Hi all. I heard about Wiki on NPR and liked the concept, so I thought I would add some of my vast knowledge and infinate wisdom. =) I am a fairly skilled end-user of computers, but not at all experienced in any sort of programming language, (If you don't count my Pascal class in high school, that is... and I don't.)

[edit]Hi there. I work as a copy editor, but that's not why I'm here. I enjoy writing, and have a wide range of interests including music, books, film and words.
I found out about Wikipedia through all the Google searches that kept sending me here, and eventually I couldn't resist contributing. I especially enjoy creating new entries.
Anyway, thanks, and happy encyclopedia-ing.

[edit]Child of the sixties, leave you to do the math. Wikipedia embodies the type of thing I believe technology should be used for. First saw mention of it in a politics, essays, argument magazine called Prospect in an article on open source software by Azeem Azhar. Hope to bring my extensive knowledge of the sea, its commercial aspects, with an emphasis on electrical/electronic systems and how they have been applied to deepwater offshore construction. Grey

DivisionByZero
[edit]I became a member yestrday and so far have created an article on verlet integration, and edited two pages about Blitz Basic. I plan to add a section to an article about RPN- how to convert Infix notation to RPN. I'm interested in computer programing, physics (usually applied to programing), writing games, robotics, writing, etc. The only things I've found to add so far are an obscure version of Newtonian physics, and an a way to convert normal math to confusing (although way easier for computers math). I came to it after a google search for "range of floating point numbers"

This is my first foray into collaborating on an encyclopedia. I'm a computer consultant by profession, but I love writing and editing. I have a good eye for typos and grammos, and I hope I can be of meaningful help.

Wiki snookered
[edit]After hearing much ado about Wikipedia from friends and family- I've finally succumbed and signed up. I'm old for this crowd I suspect- forty four, queer, female, a survivor of early childhood sexual abuse- and a prodigious erotica writer Sex, Words and Power-all ways of reclaiming, redefining and becoming the woman that I am. Interests? The word in all it's forms, fiction, non-fiction, poetry and prose... politics by virtue of needing to survive,I have found activism to be a fundamental survival tool as a woman, a mother, and a lesbian but it annoyes the hell out of me that I need to spend so much time thinking about Politicians (what will they do next???) I am lucky to belong to a bay area local writing collective- Dirty Ink, and am exploring ways to balance writing with my day job Fire 00:29, Jul 19, 2004 (UTC)

Glad to be here. ffirehorse 00:16, 19 Jul 2004 (UTC)

I just added some info about myself on my brand new user page. I am mainly interested in Open Source and know quite a bit about Linux OS. However, english is not my native language. Anyways, I will research a bit and see if there is something in need of contributions.

GaryEH
[edit]My user page is GaryEH and I'm still trying to figure out how to change it to Scorn. Anyway my time stamp says that and it takes you to my user page so why complain I guess. I am very new to Wiki But love the implications. I'm looking forward to contributing as much as possible. My area of expertise is primarly in the television media. Specifically Canadian Television. I'm becoming a bit of a research junkie on random topics of late so you may see me pop up in the oddest places.
Like ffirehorse above I didn't know about this page either but I've only been here since last week.--Scorn 03:10, 20 Jul 2004 (UTC)

[edit]I've followed a few pointers here over the years and got sidetracked into poking around, and noticed that the entry on T.E. Lawrence was a little light in the bibliography department and missed some important facts about his later life, so, since I'm a major fan and have six shelf-feet of Lawrenciana, I'm bulking it up a bit. Don't know if I'll become a regular. I'm online at ongoing.

Gonzalo Diethelm
[edit]My name is Gonzalo Diethelm, I am from Chile. I am a Software Engineer, and know enough to be able to write about the following topics: math, music, history, science.
I am overwhelmed by wikipedia. I believe this project represents the absolute best that the Internet can give to the world: a truly collaborative effort of like-minded individuals. Honor is due to its creators.
Where to begin? I already read the tutorial, and browsed through the list of wanted stubs, but I was thinking about starting with something smaller, like minor edits. Is there a For Begginer's list of suggested places to contribute?

Fast Hideous
[edit]Wikipedia's shortcut/alias has been sitting on the desktop for months already; daily visited. Having been irked by typos plagueing otherwise "perfect" writeups, I decided to join if for nothing else than to expeditiously set things right when so incontrovertibly distracted. I do not aspire to serve in any greater or loftier or admirable capacity, but will probably succumb to unabashed and relentless ego stroking if obstreperously pursued. (Please, don't!)(I'm warning you.) My normal avatar is performing in as wide-ranging venues as professional movie sets, storytelling events, folkfests, fairs, conventions, in hospices and convalescent homes, in penal or otherwise institutions, in schools and other places of learning, or in churches and other places of worship. Often, I'll use recorders, flutes, whistles, and varied percussion instruments or drums. I move, dance, sing also. And, I'm always so happy to channel God's energy thru expressing my talents and abilities. How I enjoy computer and the internet technology!! And what IT allows: Reaching you who read this now, in a way I couldn't have conceived half a century ago, for a start! I would certainly exceed the bounds of propriety if I were to fully wax lyrical on everything IT that enrapts me facing the console; mercifully, I won't. The bottom line is that I'm snug happy to join this community and contribute; hopefully, I'll be forgiven my logorheic antics. In closing, consider that my username doesn't, in toto nor in its parts, literally mean what is punned (sic). I just thought it an apt reflection upon my aversion for trivial orthographic blemishes...

I just found this page, although I've been active (216 edits) since July 18 (when Slashdot celebrated Wikipedia's 300kth article). I'm in love with the wiki concept (together with Mediawiki's nice presentation), much to the detriment of my webpage (which I'm now planning on turning into a wiki) :)

[edit]I was vaguely aware of _Wikipedia_ before an acquaintance who's a securities lawyer recommended that I consider participating. I'm an independent member of the Modern Language Association, a 54-year-old verse prosodist who still lacks a graduate degree. I've added an apostrophe to the article on Jeff Beck and the phrase "eminently distinguished lexicographer" to the article on J.R.R. Tolkien. My acquaintance called the Bob Dylan page to my attention, but its deft handling of the ever-popular Dylan Thomas question (by contrast with more than one print-encyclopedia article) needs no help from me.
Now I'm going to offer an extra helping of influence from Enid Starkie's biography to the article on Arthur Rimbaud and let it go at that, at least until such time as I ever get a Robinson Jeffers project rolling.
