Strong opposeper English book sources. We in all cases use full Spanish fonts for Mexico bios, and this is not a stage name so stage name does not apply. COMMONNAME also does not apply to incomplete fonts. The fonts on historic screen credits would largely be in capitals anyway, and ARE NOT WP:RS. Plus this is 2018. Anglicizing hispanic actors went out in the 1980s. See all others at Vélez (name) - In ictu oculi (talk) 14:39, 31 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Comment. In a biography published in 2012, 68 years after subject's death, author Michelle Vogel took the unilateral step of appending an accent. Intermittent accents may also be found in other recently published sources. However, actors' directories in which she is listed (published between 1928 and 1944) as well as contemporary press references in the English-speaking world, invariably indicate the name "Velez" without an accent.
Earlier this month (Tuesday, August 14), Turner Classic Movies screened 24 hours of Lupe Velez films — 17 features in all — and in none of them is her name in all-caps or with an accent. Furthermore, film encyclopedias (Katz, Maltin, Halliwell, etc) and websites indicate her name, without exception, in its unaccented form.
Oppose. Enough modern reliable sources are using the accent that it can't be said that the accent is consistently omitted in writing her name.[1][2][3] Many of the omissions can be explained age and/or the publisher's own style guidelines. As such, we should default to the usual spelling of the name Vélez. There's certainly no harm in doing so.--Cúchullaint/c16:04, 5 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
