Ref: County seat controversy
Prosser has always had a well-organized group of politically-active people willing to defend Prosser as the county seat. On the other hand, Richland and Kennewick seldom cooperate; a move by Kennewick to put more of the County operations in Kennewick is not supported, sometimes opposed, by Richland.
As more of the county records move on-line the physical location of the county seat will be less important. Most of the judicial activities (courts) have been moved to Kennewick although the jail is still in Prosser. This controversy will re-awake when it comes time to renovate the Courthouse in Prosser - will it make sense to spend money re-building the historic brick structure or should we start over somewhere more convenient the bulk of the citizens?
no controversy
[edit]There is no "county seat controversy" in Benton County. It is one man's crusade to move the county seat, for reasons unknown to most of the population. The only time the subject ever comes up is when he brings it up. It is a non-issue in every segment of the community. The crusader cannot even get 15,000 people in a county of 150,000 to support putting a measure on the ballot to address the "controversy". Most people feel, if it isn't broken, don't fix it; and that addage applies here. The people's needs are met in this county, and the level of service delivery is very high. The gentleman should probably find something more constructive to do with his retirement.
Link farm
[edit]I'm moving this hear because the county article is incredibly inappropriate to have a WP:DIRECTORY in. Now some of these wineries are truly notable and deserve a wikipedia article. (I'm currently working on one for Chinook Wines) After an article is written, we can find a way to include a wiki link in this article. AgneCheese/Wine 21:37, 8 June 2012 (UTC)
