[edit]Regarding the title congressman v. representative is similar to conversation v. protocol. In the case of Matt Santos, a fictional elected member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Texas, would in conversation be addressed as congressman. While in the Chamber of the House of Representatives or in a historical context, protocol would be used and addressed as Representative Matt Santos of Texas or in the AP style, Rep. Matt Santos (D-TX) which is the style C-SPAN uses.
Lincoln Chaffee
[edit]What does the Vinick chacter possibly have in common with Lincoln Chaffee other than being a liberal Republican? The Vinick character is charismatic and not in higher political office largely as a result of being his father's son. Who says that Vinick could possibly be partially based on Chaffee? Biography is copyvio

Arnold from California
[edit]A charismatic California moderate Republican named Arnold and yet no mention in this article of Arnold Schwarzenegger? -66.245.143.88 06:13, 05 November 2005 (UTC) (signature added by Scm83x)
- No. There is no mention of Schwarzenegger because it's entirely irrelevant. It is clear that Vinick's character was not in anyway intended to be a nod to Schwarzenegger. Vinick's character is more akin to a John McCain type, a dedicated Republican senator with wide crossover appeal. However, neither is important enough to mention in the article. -Scm83x 06:28, 5 November 2005 (UTC)
Added that some believe Vinick will be Santos' VP
[edit]It's a widely-held belief among a sizeable chunk of the West Wing fan community and if Santos asks Vinick to help him in another manner, the discussion would be historically relevant as to the purpose of Vinick in Santos' Administration.--Folksong 22:29, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
- However, speculation is something that Wikipedia is not. — Scm83x hook 'em 22:54, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
- Stating that a sizeable amount of people believe that something will happen is different than speculation, but I lack the desire to feud over such a trivial issue.--Folksong 03:07, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- Tonight's episode of Earl stated Vinick might get the nod, which was believed by most of the West Wing fan community all along. If all clearly-labeled and well-sourced speculation was deleted from Wikipedia, then 75% of the respective pages on the Playstation 3 (until recently) and the Wii wouldn't even exist.--Folksong 04:42, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- Would that be such a bad thing? — Scm83x hook 'em 04:47, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, yes. Putting down predictions is one thing, omitting widely-held beliefs or unconfirmed, but well-sourced information puts readers at a disadvantage.--Folksong 01:54, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

Vinick wins popular vote by 1 million?
[edit]i've seen this season...when did it say vinick won the popular vote?
- I have to agree with this. I've also been watching the show (too religiously?) and never saw/heard the popular vote count total anywhere but on Wikipedia. Lucky Adrastus 04:58, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
- I'm going to remove this, as there seems to be no source for it. If anyone finds a source, they should include that in the article or here in the talk section, along with putting the reference back. Lucky Adrastus 08:55, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
Mrs. Vinick?
[edit]Does anyone know who plays Mrs. Vinick in the picture with the Senator? Is it Alan Alda's real-life wife?
Children
[edit]The NBC web site for Vinick says he has four children, I've amended that part accordingly.
Barry Goldwater?
[edit]A right-radical in financial affairs, a sort of "libertarian" in religious affairs, a straight-shooter who runs for president- Barry Goldwater seems to me to be a good option, if you`re asking for a real-life figure Vinick is based on.Asalmog 21:45, 23 June 2007 (UTC)
I wouldn't say he resembles Goldwater. As someone above noted, he seems to be mostly based on John McCain. A respected, straight-talking maverick moderate Republican Senator with wide independent appeal. Strongly in favor of a balanced budget and fiscal discipline, hawkish/neocon on foreign policy and defense, mixed record on the environment, supports immigration reform, pro-nuclear energy, doesn't beleive gay marriage is a federal issue. But then there's also a bit of Schwarzenegger thrown in, in terms of his first name, home state and pro-choice stance. EJB341 20:08, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
Where he resembles Goldwater is in his position as a pro-choice Republican, and in his unswerving opposition to the Religious Right. None of the current candidates would dare do that, although John McCain did try in 2000 and got stumped for his trouble. 147.9.201.235 (talk) 23:12, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for File:Bartletvinickandreo.jpg
[edit]File:Bartletvinickandreo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Vinick x Santos = McCain x Obama ?
[edit]Is that a case of real life imitating art (barring the appropriate differences of course) . 161.24.19.82 (talk) 17:31, 7 February 2008 (UTC)
Well, they basically admitted that Santos was based on Obama and Vinick on McCain. So yeah, I'd say it is. 147.9.201.235 (talk) 23:13, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with File:Tww live debate1.jpg
[edit]The image File:Tww live debate1.jpg is used in this article under a claim of fair use, but it does not have an adequate explanation for why it meets the requirements for such images when used here. In particular, for each page the image is used on, it must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for the use in this article.
- That this article is linked to from the image description page.
