Eugene McCarthy

[edit]

McCarthy was on some ballots as Consumer Party candidate. As he was at one time a major political figure, this ought to be mentioned somewhere. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.162.253.101 (talk) 22:31, 9 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Image of Dukakis for 1988 election articles

[edit]

Unfortunately, the current (color) image has no evidence of being public domain, and is all but certainly going to be deleted. I suggest the image we use for Dukakis if the current is indeed deleted be File:Michael Dukakis (1).jpg. It is a 3x4 crop image that is clear, well oriented, and well-cropped. It is a superior crop to the previous crop of the same original image we were using before the current (color) image was put in place. I wish we had a contemporary color photo of Dukakis proven to be in the public domain. But we have yet to find one. SecretName101 (talk) 16:26, 21 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Dukakis photograph changes

[edit]

For a while now, the agreed upon image to use for Dukakis has been Option 1. Yesterday, I updated Dukakis' photograph to Option 2. Today, @Walia32 replaced it with Option 3. I believe 2 is the clear victor, because it's a color photograph, but it is definitely lower resolution than the other two. Obviously, regardless of the settled image for Dukakis, the Bush image should also be cropped to mactch it. I'd like to hear other perspectives and opinions on it, so that we can reach a consensus here.

I vote for Option 2. While it is low resolution, that doesn't matter because the image is shrunk down for the infobox anyways. It shows the best possible image for identifying Dukakis, plus is in colour, which matches with the image for Bush. The first one has that other shoulder poking in, plus an odd crop & perspective, and the third one cuts off the top of Dukakis's head. The second one is generally the best for identifying Dukakis, as well as providing a clean, encyclopaedic look suitable for a Wikipedia article. Thanks for the input! Unfortunately, Option 2 evidently doesn't have the right license, so it isn't compatible with Wikimedia Commons. This was completely unintentional on my part. The image will be deleted shortly. I'm just going to change the photos back to their original ones and leave them like that. :( GI Brown 1970 (talk) 13:26, 17 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I do agree that Option 1 looked odd with the shoulder poking in and looked like an "after-thought" photo. I chose Option 3 as it was a clear picture. There is a good color photo of Dukakis waving that is in the Smithsonian archive. I do not believe it is in the Wikimedia database yet but y'all can figure it out.
