The article CARIS has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence of notability. Please add references to reliable sources.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. — This, that, and the other (talk) 07:29, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Lac Megantic

[edit]

Thanks for taking the time to add a couple of things to the article. However, can you make sure next time that 1) you add references for new facts and 2) you adjust already existing references if you modify the sentences?

I've gone through what you added, but I couldn't come up with a reference for the fact that the train left from Montreal, nor that it derailed 2000 feet from the bridge. Can you add those?

Thanks. pm (talk)

Corrected now. I based that edit on the statement from the MMA press release that the derailment took place at the Rue Frontenac grade crossing.[1] and by measuring that location on Google Earth, it is approximately 2,000 feet (railway) west of the Chaudiere River bridge. On historic maps you can also see that this is the same location where the Quebec Central Railway had a junction but this line is now an industrial spur serving a sawmill.Plasma east (talk) 12:58, 7 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I think this is as close to WP:OR as we can get, but it's good enough for me. I've changed "west" to "northwest" though. Thanks! pm (talk) 16:04, 7 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Land Force Area to Canadian Division updates

[edit]

Hello, I just saw your updates to pages such as Land Force Quebec Area, and it's proposed merger with the original 2nd Canadian Division page. I made updates to Structure of the Canadian Army as best I could, with my limited knowledge of the wiki editing interface, before I noticed your updates to the Land Force Area pages. Just mentioning to please keep an eye on the Structure of the Canadian Army page and keep it properly linked to the others (such as if the names change); I want to make sure no pages slip through the cracks. Back in 2005 you added the history section to Hudson Bay Railway. I just noticed it says "The line to tidewater was completed March 29, 1929."

Tidewater with a small "t"? What is this, a place? Or something else? 90.229.34.175 (talk) 14:20, 9 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for catching that. It would have been just another way to reference the port of Churchill / shore of Hudson Bay. I've changed it to Churchill in the article for consistency. Plasma east (talk) 20:31, 10 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Plasma east, I didn't notice you were in the process of adding the Nova Scotia cabinet appointments and had begun to add them myself to several of the articles. Yeah, those were two of the articles that I had edited. By the way, good work getting all these articles updated. I'll leave the new cabinet alone for now and let you get them updated. I'm going to try and update the references for past members that I added some time ago, because it appears that CBC, which I mostly used as a source has changed their urls resulting in some pages not being found. Hi Plasma east, since you have done a lot of work in Nova Scotia political articles, I was hoping you might be able to help me with something. I think there is an error in regards to cabinet dates in the Michel Samson article but I'm having a hard time trying to find any sources. I noticed a ? was listed for predecessor as Minister of Environment, and I found an article that mentioned that Wayne Adams was Minister of Environment at the time of his defeat on March 24, 1998.[2]. Since article lists Samson becoming minister in March 1998, then Adams would be the predecessor, however I don't believe that to be correct. According to this article[3], the new cabinet wasn't sworn in until April 8, 1998, which rules out March 1998 as the start date, however Samson isn't even listed as being named to cabinet at that time, and article says that Don Downe was named as Environment minister, which isn't even mentioned in his own article. If Samson was not appointed at that point in time, then he had to have been added at a later date but that's where I'm lost, I can't find a source that states when he was appointed, which would also determine who preceded him in the position, thus clearing up two items in the infobox. I realize that this isn't anything to lose sleep over, but I would prefer to be able to clear this up. Do you have any idea about this, or am I just wasting everybodys time getting stuck on this? Cmr08 (talk) 03:26, 12 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Plasma east, I'm really sorry to have bothered you with this because as soon as I saved the edit, I remembered the Government of Nova Scotia archives it news releases, and two minutes later I was able to find the correct date and predecessor. I would have just reverted my message here, but I know I'm not supposed to do that on another talk page even if I am the one that left the message to begin with. You can just go ahead and remove this as If it was never sent. Cmr08 (talk) 03:37, 12 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No worries - thanks for fixing the articles. For the elections in the 1990s, I estimated that the swearing in of Executive Council occurred in the same month as the election. I've been busy with some other tasks for the past few weeks but hope to get back at this Nova Scotia MLA project in the coming weeks.Plasma east (talk) 12:03, 12 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Plasma east, I know some editors don't like to use them, but can the government news release I cited in Michel Samson article be used as a reliable source if a news article can't be found? I wouldn't want to do the work only to have an article reverted, but I think I can cleanup some unsourced items in some articles as I think the archive goes back to 1997, which is a couple of years earlier than CBC. I was also wondering about sourcing Internet Archive articles. Articles that didn't use a reference template, I always put via Internet Archive after the retrieval date, which probably was wrong just not picked up by other editors, but with the citation news template, I have no idea how to do this. The reason I ask, I recently discovered that I had Internet Archive links for 1998, 1999 and 2003 Chronicle-Herald elections bookmarked on my computer, and was able to add a source to some articles about seats lost, candidates not running again, etc. A quick look through those pages show a lot of articles that could be used to improve articles or provide sources for info already there. For example, you added about Michel Samson winning the Liberal nomination in 1998, and a few days into that election I found the actual news article and was able to add it to the article. I know your busy with other things, but any advice you have on these questions would be appreciated. It doesn't have to be know, whenever you can get around to it is ok with me. Thanks. Cmr08 (talk) 03:23, 13 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think I have cited a source in the Internet Archive before but if it isn't available in the "open web" then by all means - anything that can back up what is in an article is fair game in my books. Through work I have access to various databases of newspapers etc., some going back decades, such as the Globe & Mail, NY Times, etc. and I've cited those on occasion, just not as a web citation but as a news or book or journal citation, depending on the type of publication.Plasma east (talk) 12:03, 15 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Replaceable fair use File:Halifax NS Maritime Centre.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Halifax NS Maritime Centre.jpg. I noticed that this file is being used under a claim of fair use. However, I think that the way it is being used fails the first non-free content criterion. This criterion states that files used under claims of fair use may have no free equivalent; in other words, if the file could be adequately covered by a freely-licensed file or by text alone, then it may not be used on Wikipedia. If you believe this file is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and add the text {{di-replaceable fair use disputed|<your reason>}} below the original replaceable fair use template, replacing <your reason> with a short explanation of why the file is not replaceable.
  2. On the file discussion page, write a full explanation of why you believe the file is not replaceable.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 11:42, 15 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on History of Industrail Cape Breton, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a redirect from an implausible typo, or other unlikely search term.

Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. If you believe that there is a reason to keep the redirect, you can request that administrators wait a while before deleting it. To do this, affix the template {{hangon}} to the page and state your intention on the article's talk page. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. G. C. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Souris Regional School, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Spartan. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Roy A. Jodrey moved to draftspace

[edit]

An article you recently created, Roy A. Jodrey, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page.
