[edit]Porno for Pyros was not a solo project. It was a band. It featured ex-Jane's Addiction's drummer Al Perkins as well as guitarist Peter DiStefano and basist Martyn LeNoble. Nahum 05:40 18 Jul 2003 (UTC)
- Great! You should add that in! Jeez, there's practically nothing there now. -- ESP 05:43 18 Jul 2003 (UTC)
Porno for Pyros (named after the orgy of destruction that was the Los Angeles/Rodney King riots) -- I am wondering if that is indeed accurate. I have other information (no reliable attribution right now, however), that Ferrell was browsing a pyrotechnics catalog when the name came to him. Can someone confirm or discredit that? --JG Santa Cruz CALIF USA--66.166.22.146 17:13, 21 July 2005 (UTC)
I saw an interview on MTV in Singapore and I believe you are right, the name came to him while browsing a pyrotechnics catalogue when he showed it to the others and said hey its "Porno for Pyros" the name stuck --CJ Aussie 15:23, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
Yes, I recalled reading that the name came from a pyrotechnics catalogue in a Time magazine article which I have found online and confirmed. The Time magazine article as well as an Entertainment Weekly article do draw a connection between the band name, song lyrics, and the LA riots. I will make the edit including these references. Both explanations have relevance- the name originally comes from the catalogue, but the decision to use it for the band also results from its timely relevance- much of the lyrical content and soundscape of the eponymous album is a result of the impact of the riots. For instance 'Black Girlfriend'- 'Ever since the riots all I really wanted was a black girlfriend'- 'Bad Shit' and 'Packin .25'- also refer to violent street scenes and the need to carry arms in LA and precede the calmness of BGF with a comparatively riotous sound. The drummer's name is Steve Perkins not Al. Sorry no refs.
