This is a proposed policy regarding articles about schools in Wikipedia. All levels of schools apply, although it is mostly intended to evaluate articles about primary and secondary schools.
Goal of this policy
[edit]This process is intended to be a replacement for Wikipedia:Votes for deletion only used for school articles. Note that school articles may be deleted via this process.
The purpose of this process is to give further investigation to a category of article that has caused much controversy in Wikipedia. It is modeled after Wikipedia:Votes for deletion, but expanded to improve the process of deciding what to do with an article about a school. The special focus of this page is useful, given the unique nature of school article within Wikipedia. It is also useful to group these articles together when deciding their futures, since they are all about schools. Also importantly, the discussion period is lengthened, so that schools can be examined more intensively than other, more obvious, candidates for deletion.
Note that Wikipedia:WikiProject Schools and the articles' talk pages are the proper places to decide the actual content of the articles, if they are kept.
Process of evaluation
[edit]- An article is tagged with {{sane}}
- Facts and potential for an encyclopedic article are researched and discussed.
- A consensus decision is reached
Tagging
[edit]First an article must be determined a candidate for evaluation by any editor, possible candidates are:
- Recently created school stubs.
- School articles with facts that cannot be easily verified.
- School articles that do not have potential to become encyclopedic.
{{sane}} is added to the top of the article.
Content of article
[edit]Discussion over the content and possible content of the article is done for 10? or more days.
- Is the information verifiable?
- Can the article become encyclopedic?
- Should it be kept? If not, should it be merged to its corresponding city article? If not, it is deleted.
Suggested requirements for keeping an article
[edit]- Conforming to template to be agreed upon at WikiProject Schools
More to be decided
Suggested requirements for being merged into the corresponding city article
[edit]More To be decided
Decision
[edit]Once a decision is reached, it is acted upon:
If the article is to be deleted, the discussion is archived and an administrator deletes the article.
If it is to be merged, the debate is archived on the talk page of the article it is merged to, and anyone can merge it. For city articles that are too long to have sections about schools, a sub-page can be made. For example, an article titled Schools of New York City.
If the name is ambiguous a disambiguation page is created, otherwise a redirect is created. If the article is kept, the notice is removed and the discussion is archived on the schools talk page.
